At present, anything marked as "old" is no longer accurate in terms of supporting materials (descriptions), This extends to my bio, which is also undergoing redesigns.
Unmarked works are current and, within an extent, accurate.
(Old Bio) I am a student artist primarily focusing on fantasy artwork produced with pastels on paper and oils on canvas. I have made some drawings in charcoal, primarily at the request of my instructors. In the past I have also produced several paintings with watercolour paints on paper. I have made sparing numbers of monoprints, sculptures, ink drawings, and acrylic paintings.
Watercolour represents the original core of my studies alongside charcoal, I paint in a heavy and direct manner unsuited to the patience driven style of watercolour paints, pastels fully replaced them in my studies by the end of April 2018. I mostly reserve oils for class assignments due to the amount of space they require, and the fire hazard they pose, I paint primarily with student grade paints such as Winton, and favour the following colours: Burnt-Sienna, Burnt-Umber, Cadmium-Yellow-Light, Cadmium-Red, Dioxazine Violet, French-Ultramarine, Quinacridone-Red, Raw-Sienna, Titanium-White, Viridian-Green, Zinc-White. An average oil painting demands eight to sixteen hours of painting, since I paint in studio with a two hour commute, this work is spread across a wide period of time.
I use a variety of student grade pastels for initial sketching alongside Rembrandt, and do the remaining painting with many varieties of soft pastel: Blick, BlockX, Great-American, Mount-Vision, Richeson, Schmincke, Sennelier, Townsend, Unison. An average pastel entails five to ten hours of painting, and sometimes more time is needed for complicated paintings.
I strongly emphasise cuteness and colour in my paintings, and highly value originality in all things. As much or more time is put into the character and story of my creatures compared to the painting itself, and my paintings are a means of making them real in a way which words cannot.
My paintings almost exclusively centre on figural subjects, with lesser attention given to landscape in a supporting role to the figure. I generally don't paint still lives unless specifically instructed to do so, the same is true for abstract art. I have little interest in painting people from pure observation, and find it difficult to impassion myself when painting that which is not uniquely my own.
